Bradford district business expands into new shopping outlet

A FASHION retailer from the Bradford district is expanding.

Damart – which is based in Bingley and has a warehousing and logistics operation in Steeton – has opened a new concession, within Harveys of Halifax.

The outlet features a range of womenswear, nightwear and thermals.

A launch event included free drinks and special opening offers, and Damart’s autumn/winter collection was showcased.

The opening marks another milestone in the growth of the retailer.

It comes after similar launches at Atkinsons of Sheffield, and through partnerships with British Garden Centres and Unique U stores across the UK.

And the rollout is continuing.

Another concession is due to open – in Banburys, Barnstaple – by the end of this year.

Tracey Cousins, public relations and digital marketing manager at Damart, says: “We are thrilled to have opened our latest concession in Harveys of Halifax.

“Harveys has a strong reputation for quality and personal service, which aligns closely with our own values.

“The opening has given us another fantastic opportunity to meet customers face to face, showcase our latest collections and provide the comfort, style and innovation Damart is known for.

“It was wonderful to welcome so many new shoppers at the launch and introduce them to the Damart brand.

“Connecting with customers in person and hearing their feedback first-hand was a real highlight.

“Our expansion into more regional stores this year has been incredibly positive, and we’re excited to keep strengthening those local relationships as we grow.”

Tracy Harvey, Harveys of Halifax managing director, says: “We are very excited to introduce a new Damart concession to Harveys this season.

“The collection offers an impressive variety of stylish, high-quality pieces that combine comfort, great value and thoughtful design.

“Damart brings something fresh to the store, offering well-made, wearable fashion that really resonates with our customers.

“As Harveys continues to evolve its mix of brands, Damart is a perfect fit. The team has been fantastic to work with, and we’re confident this partnership will add something special to the shopping experience in Halifax.”

Damart was founded by brothers Joseph, Paul and Jules Despature, who had a fabrics business at Roubaix in the north of France.

They had the idea of designing thermal underwear using chlorofibre, a synthetic fibre which proved hugely effective against cold and moisture.

The firm’s first mail order catalogue was published in 1953, marking the beginning of Damart’s success story.

Damart became the market leader in thermal clothing, with its products being worn by leading Arctic explorers and Everest teams.

The company was launched in the United Kingdom in the 1960s.
