Bradford among Yorkshire’s best places for independent coffee lovers

BRADFORD ranks among the top five local authorities in Yorkshire and the Humber for independent coffee shops.

New research by Manchester-based SEO agency Dark Horse reveals that Bradford has the fifth highest proportion of independently owned coffee shops in the region, with 85.7 per cent of its coffee shops operating independently.

The study found that only 14.3 per cent of the city’s coffee shops are part of a chain.

In nearby Calderdale, which topped the regional ranking, 88.9 per cent of coffee shops are independent—the same percentage as in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Barnsley placed third with 87.2 per cent, followed by Kirklees with 86.6 per cent.

Libby Mayfield, head of marketing at Dark Horse, said: “Our research found that the UK is home to 32,957 coffee shops, 25,415 of which are independently owned.

“There’s something incredibly comforting about these findings; it feels like a real celebration of the UK’s love of a local café.
