A SCHOOL has been named one of the best workplaces in the UK.
The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) earned a place on The Sunday Times Best Places to Work list for 2026 in the Big Organisation category, marking its first year of entering the national awards.
The nationwide programme, run in partnership with WorkL, founded by Lord Mark Price, celebrates organisations that excel in employee engagement and workplace culture.
Michael Hall, principal at GSAL, said: “At GSAL, we believe that when colleagues feel supported, empowered and valued, they are able to make the greatest possible difference to the lives of young people.
“This award is a wonderful endorsement of our culture and values, and of the dedication shown by colleagues across every part of the school.
“To be recognised nationally alongside leading organisations from across the UK is a significant achievement for the school.”
This year’s list featured 567 organisations from across the UK, with 126 employers recognised in the Big Organisation category for those with 250 to 1,999 employees.
The recognition is based on a detailed employee survey covering wellbeing, reward and recognition, job satisfaction, empowerment, and pride in the organisation.
GSAL was one of only six Leeds-based organisations to be included in its category, and the only independent school to be recognised nationally.

The Sunday Times Best Places to Work awards also highlight excellence in areas including wellbeing, inclusion, and support for employees throughout their careers.
GSAL’s inclusion reflects the school’s ongoing investment in colleague wellbeing, professional development, staff voice and a strong sense of community.
