A NEW art gallery, tattoo studio and events space is opening under one roof in the heart of a historic village in Bradford.

The former Mitchells Printers building in Fountain Street, Thornton, has been transformed into Fountain Street Arts Project.

Founded by Amy Roller, Fountain Street Arts Project held a launch event last week and will be open to the public from May 1.

Talking about the launch event, Amy said: “We had an incredible turnout from local artists and individuals who were keen to see the final transformation of the space – especially as the building holds so much history within the village.

“I’m incredibly grateful to our team of volunteers who pulled together in the final moments to help with the finishing touches for our opening. 

“The whole project gave us a real sense of unity and purpose – something I think we’ll all miss in a strange way now that it’s reached completion.

“Our aim is to introduce a street-level voice into the more traditional art scene here in Thornton. 

“The people behind this project are graffiti writers, skaters and musicians – we’re expressing ourselves in ways that reflect who we are, and in doing so, we hope to encourage others with that same energy to join us, sharing their vision and craft with the world.”

Asked what people can expect from Fountain Street Arts Project, Amy said: “We have a main exhibition space that rotates every two months, alongside an Artist Spotlight Wall focused on fostering local talent within the urban arts community. 

“At the rear of the space, we also have a dedicated tattoo studio that brings people through the door daily.

“Beyond that, the space lends itself perfectly to small, curated arts events – we’re already planning a skateboard deck painting workshop as part of the Thornton Arts Trail in June.”

When Fountain Street Arts Project opens to the public on May 1, the gallery will be open from 11am to 4pm Wednesday to Sunday, with the tattoo studio operating by appointment-only.
