Award-winning curry house hopes to clinch another title in its 60th anniversary year

AN award-winning curry house in Bradford is hoping to add to its list of accolades ahead of its 60th anniversary.

The Telegraph & Argus launched its Best Curry House 2024 competition recently, with readers invited to share their favourite restaurants.

And they did just that as thousands of nominations poured in.

The nominations were then whittled down to 10 and we are currently aiming to profile each of the finalists.

Today is the turn of Sweet Centre Restaurant, based on 110-114 Lumb Lane in the Manningham area of the city.

Zulficar Ali, managing director, spoke of his joy at the business making it into the final of the T&A’s Best Curry House 2024 contest.

“All of us feel very happy and proud that we have been recognised,” he said.

“Sweet Centre Restaurant is a curry institution and really stands out from the crowd.

“It has been welcoming customers since December 12, 1964 – nearly 60 years ago.”

Mr Ali said Sweet Centre Restaurant serves “excellent and tasty” dishes, providing customers with “the best atmosphere and dining experience”.

“The service is great too,” he added.

He said the Sweet Centre Restaurant had won a number of awards over the years – and hoped to clinch another through the T&A’s Best Curry House 2024 competition.

Mr Ali added that the eatery – which appeared on BBC Two’s Britain’s Top Takeaways in 2022 – plays an important role in the community and staff have “excellent relationships” with Bradfordians, often supporting charitable projects to help others.

The Sweet Centre Restaurant’s website states: “Food is our passion.

“Our chef indulges in creating a delicious and surprising menu that will overwhelm your every sense.”

The website adds: “Our business has contributed greatly towards employment and economic growth in our great city of Bradford.”

Don’t miss out on your chance to shout up for your favourite curry house as part of our competition.

It really couldn’t be simpler to vote for the venue you think should win.

All you need to do is fill out the voting form, which can be found in the T&A.

The voting coupon will run in the newspaper until November 9, so there is plenty of opportunity to make sure the curry house you think is the finest is in with a chance of taking the top spot.
