BRADFORD Council has said it has no plans to buy The Broadway.
As reported by the Telegraph & Argus earlier this week, the sprawling shopping centre is on the market with a guide price of £74.23 million.
After the news emerged, Councillor Bob Felstead, Conservative and Queensbury independent group spokesman for regeneration, planning and transport on Bradford Council, said he wanted assurances that the authority would not put in a bid for The Broadway “in light of its disastrous record of dabbling in investment property”.
The T&A asked Bradford Council if it was considering buying The Broadway.
A Council spokesperson responded: “We’ve no plans to buy the Broadway.”
Earlier this week, Mark Garmon-Jones, director of retail investment at Savills – which is marketing The Broadway – said: “The Broadway is a modern, dominant prime retail investment at the heart of a growing and vibrant city.
“Named as the UK City of Culture 2025, Bradford continues to attract an influx of public and private sector investment making it an even more attractive prospect for potential buyers.
“From an investment perspective, it provides the chance to acquire a scheme with compelling reversionary potential and several exciting active asset management opportunities.
“For this reason we anticipate a high volume of enquiries from interested parties.”
