Company workers take steps (over 21 million) to help charity

WORKERS at a Steeton company have taken steps to help charity.

Acorn Stairlifts employees signed up for the Diabetes UK One Million Step Challenge.

Each participant aimed to complete around 10,000 steps a day throughout July, August and September.

And together they clocked up more than 21 million.

Nearly £1,900 was raised through sponsorship.

Samantha Melsome-Smith, Acorn Stairlifts’ top stepper and fundraiser, says: “It was great building a new habit and I’ve been sticking to it since the challenge ended.

“It was nice to get out and about and explore new areas around me that I didn’t know were there, and push myself to go further afield. The improved fitness is a bonus too.”

The team was thanked by Susan Haley, from Diabetes UK, when she visited Acorn Stairlifts to collect a cheque.

Anyone is invited to take part in the charity’s annual One Million Step Challenge, either individually or as part of a group.
