An expanding business in Kirklees has purchased a former fire station to support its growth.
Cleckheaton-based online retailer The Metal Store, one of the UK’s largest online metal and steel suppliers to businesses and DIY enthusiasts, has acquired the Hightown Road site, which adjoins its existing 50,000 sq ft facility at Brook Mill.
The Metal Store serves businesses and DIY customers with products including tube clamps, aluminium, stainless steel, galvanised steel, and sheet metal.
Andy Buckley, founder and CEO of The Metal Store, said: “The former Cleckheaton fire station building has long been of interest due to its close proximity to our existing facility.
“As an employer, we remain committed to prioritising and growing Cleckheaton’s local economy.
“Our new site is testament to this, presenting more opportunities for employment and for local businesses and suppliers to work with us.
“We now look forward to starting fit-out works at the former fire station and becoming operational across both our new and existing premises.”
Its customer base includes global automotive manufacturers, construction and engineering companies, professional football clubs, universities, and performance arts venues.
Founded in Cleckheaton and started trading in 2011, the company currently employs 35 people.
The value of the site purchase has not been disclosed.
The Metal Store has an average rating of 4.8 out of 5 on Google from more than 3,000 reviews.
