A LARGE Bradford firm has entered administration leaving hundreds of jobs at risk.
Mitton Group, based in Mackenzie House on Cleckheaton Road, Low Moor, has been put under the control of Licensed Insolvency Practitioners Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP in Leeds.
A notice was lodged just before 11am on Monday, September 4, the HM Courts & Tribunals Service has confirmed to the Telegraph & Argus.
The firms included are as follows; H. Mitton Limited, Mitton Mechanical Services, Mitton Electrical Services, and Mitton Aftercare.
It is understood over 200 workers have been affected, with many left frustrated and out of pocket.
A letter seen by the T&A, which was sent out to Mitton Group employees last Thursday, saw bosses apologise for not paying workers on time.
It talked about how discussions “exploring the potential sale of the business” had caused “financial challenges for the company”.
The letter added: “As a result, we will not be able to make payroll payments tomorrow.
“To be clear, this does not mean you will not be paid your wages; it just means that we are not in a position to make the payroll payment run tomorrow, as we would normally do so.”
It is understood a meeting was held with employees on Monday where they were told about the administration.
On Monday, one worker told the T&A: “Nobody has been paid. We usually get paid on a Friday.
“There are a massive amount of people who have still got bills to pay. Now any loss of earnings we need to claim back from the government. The administrators have stepped in and taken over.”
Bradford South MP Judith Cummins (Labour) was disappointed to see more jobs in the city being put at risk.
She said: “Any job lost is bad news for Bradford and the wider economy. I raised job losses in Bradford with the minister in Parliament on Monday and his response was to say how Job Centres were doing a ‘fantastic job’.
“This government is complacent in the face of job losses which is bringing economic pain to families here in Bradford. We have seen a difficult summer of job cuts in Bradford.
“This out-of-touch, chaotic Government is failing and it is people here in Bradford who are paying the price.”
The Telegraph & Argus has approached the Mitton Group on several occasions but was unable to gain a comment.
