HOLIDAYMAKERS are still experiencing “chaos” at Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA).
It comes amid a national problem which has seen airports struggling to cope with demand for travel amid staff shortages.
Manchester Airport has been one of the worst affected, with passengers reporting four-hour queues on Monday.
LBA said all staff required for the airport to operate at full capacity have been recruited, but it is waiting for full Home Office approval.
One Ilkley man who didn’t wish to be named flew to Dublin from Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) on Friday evening and said it was chaos because the fire alarm had gone off earlier in the day, which caused delays.
“The airport has zero capacity and they’re packing the flight schedules – so any delays and they are overflowing with passengers. It was a miserable four-hour wait as we had to get there early as advised as well.”
“There was nowhere to sit in the building, the lounges were full, pensioners and families with kids sat on the floors,” he said.
When he arrived back in the country from Dublin on Sunday night he faced further delays as there were no steps ready for customers to exit the plane due to a shortage of ground crew staff.
He has now changed his flight, which was meant to depart from Leeds next week, to Liverpool to try and miss the chaos.
T&A reader Lyn Diane also said that she had travelled over the weekend, and it took her fifty minutes to get through the long security queues even though she had paid for fast-track.
However, she said: “Staff were organised, making sure people did not miss their flights. It is what it is. Don’t stress.”
