New £150m warehouse set to bring 400 jobs to the region

A new £150 million warehouse is set to bring 400 jobs to the region.

The facility, currently under construction in Gildersome, is part of Lidl GB’s wider UK infrastructure investment and will support the supermarket’s long-term growth plans as it works towards a target of 1,000 stores nationwide.

Richard Taylor, chief real estate officer at Lidl GB, said: “We’re proud to play our role in driving economic growth, while continuing to establish an infrastructure that delivers sustainable growth for our ambitious expansion plans.

“But these investments are not just about logistics.

“The updates today also represent an investment in our mission to make good food accessible to households across the country.”

Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves also welcomed the investment.

Ms Reeves said: “This investment is a strong vote of confidence in the UK economy, and Lidl’s commitment to new warehouse facilities in London and Leeds will unlock hundreds of new jobs, strengthen supply chains, and ensure families can access affordable, quality food.”

The Leeds warehouse is one of two major logistics projects announced by the retailer, with a combined investment of £435 million.

Lidl has also recently completed a major expansion of its Belvedere site in London.LidlBusiness
