Popular new city centre food store brings taste of Nigeria to Bradford

A NEW city centre store is bringing a taste of Nigeria to Bradford and its residents.

Red and Greens Aficana Food Store, on Cheapside, Bradford, opened its doors about a month ago and is already proving popular.

“Not too many people know we’re here yet,” said a spokesperson for Red and Greens. “But we’re spreading the word.

“Our customers have been very happy. There are a few African food stores in Bradford but some are very far.”

The store has been particularly popular with Nigerians who fancy a taste of home.

The spokesperson said: “Nigerians are marvelled by what they can see here.

“We’re bringing Nigeria to Bradford. There’s no need to go home.

“It’s great to see the excitement of our customers. They are thanking us.

“We have traditional kinds of Nigerian cuisine, and a bit from Ghana too.

“We’re bringing Nigeria to our store. Many people crave for their own kind of cuisine.

Although the store offers staples of the Nigerian diet, she said British people are enjoying the food they offer too.

“People will ask ‘can you tell me how you make it’?

“Then they’ll come back and say ‘I’ve made it and it’s nice’.”
