Saltaire Brewery toasts a ‘landmark’ year

A BRADFORD district brewery has toasted a “landmark” year – and given a taste of what customers can expect in 2026.

Saltaire Brewery began in 2003 when founder Tony Gartland met Derek Todd, an industrial chemist, at a brewing course in Newcastle.

They had no idea then that starting one of the earliest microbreweries in Yorkshire would grow into the major name it is today.

Ravi Sharma, executive director at Paramount Retail Group – which owns Saltaire Brewery – has reflected on 2025 for the business and given his thoughts on what the new year looks set to bring.

He told the Telegraph & Argus: “2025 has been a landmark year for Saltaire Brewery, marked by both national growth and a deepening connection with our local community.

“One of the standout achievements has been securing national supermarket listings, including Morrisons for our seasonal White Christmas beer, demonstrating the continued demand for well-crafted, authentic British ales on a national scale.

“Alongside this, we were proud to reintroduce historic favourites such as Raspberry Blonde Ale, reconnecting drinkers with the brewery’ heritage while appealing to a new generation of consumers.”

Mr Sharma said Saltaire Brewery remains committed to engaging with the community.

“This year saw the launch of our annual Easter festival weekend, which for the first time in the brewery’s history attracted families and children alongside our core craft ale enthusiasts,” he said.

“The event marked a significant step in establishing Saltaire Brewery not just as a producer of quality beer, but as a genuine community destination within the area, reflecting its unique cultural and social character.”

Mr Sharma acknowledged that 2025 had been a “challenging” year for the brewing and hospitality sector due to “rising costs, changing consumer behaviour and recent Government initiatives”

He added: “For businesses like Saltaire Brewery, it is vital that we remain dynamic and adaptable, continuing to innovate while supporting independent pubs and the wider hospitality sector that is so important to local economies and communities.”

Despite the ongoing pressures in the sector, Mr Sharma said the business was entering 2026 “with confidence”.

“We are pleased to be expanding our national on trade presence with a new listing across JD Wetherspoon pubs, further strengthening our reach and visibility across the UK,” he added.

“This milestone reflects both the quality of our beers and the hard work of the team behind the scenes.

“As we move into the new year, our focus remains on producing great beer, strengthening national partnerships and continuing to invest in a place where people come together – whether that’s for a pint, a festival or simply to be part of the community.”
