‘Something for everyone’ in new Bradford city centre clothes shop

A NEW clothes shop has opened in Bradford city centre.

Nigeria House has arrived in the 65 Market Street unit, where uniform shop Academia once stood.

The business focuses on African clothing, but hopes to attract customers from a range of different communities.

Husband and wife, Ezinne and Fides Maduka, opened the store last weekend.

Ezinne is keen to give back to the community after moving to Bradford a decade ago.

“It has been good,” she told the Telegraph & Argus.

“Many people are really interested. Not only our people but the whole community.

“We live in Bradford. We love Bradford. Bradford is a place of culture.

She added: “It is a new venture for us. We just thought about what our community really needed and doesn’t have.

“It is something I have had an eye on for a while. I just thought this is the right time that we should do it.

“It is not just the African community that are interested. A lot of people from different cultures love the fabrics because they are colourful.

“There is something for everybody in the shop.”

Nigeria House sells African textiles and fabrics, as well as ready-made wears, and accessories.

Fides feels Nigeria House’s opening means fans of African clothing will no longer have to travel to Manchester or the capital.

He said: “We want to show off African culture in the clothes that we are selling.

“We hope it can be a success.

“Before, people used to go to London or Manchester for this clothing, but now they can come here, which is much more local.”
