A supermarket giant is expanding its scheme to help children in Yorkshire eat more healthily.
Tesco will continue its Fruit & Veg for Schools programme, launched in September 2024, for the 2025/26 academic year.
The scheme offers free fruit and vegetables to more than 500 schools, including 64 in Yorkshire and the Humber.
Ashwin Prasad, UK CEO of Tesco, said: “Schools have told us what a positive impact the Tesco Fruit & Veg for Schools programme has made on their children, so we are delighted we are able to support even more schools in year two.”
Targeted at schools where more than 50 per cent of pupils receive free school meals, the scheme is designed to increase access to fresh produce in areas of greatest need.
Tesco expects participating pupils’ fruit and vegetable intake to rise by 23 per cent.
Schools can select and collect produce from their nearest Tesco store, with apples, bananas and oranges proving most popular during the first year of the programme.
