Yorkshire Building Society is marking six months of clean energy gains from new solar carports.
In half a year, the solar canopies, installed at the society’s head office in Yorkshire Drive in Bradford, have generated 550 megawatt-hours of renewable electricity.
That output is enough to power 150 homes for a year or fully charge 9,000 electric vehicles, and now meets nearly one-third of the combined electricity demand at two YBS sites.
Alex Rance, climate change risk and strategy manager at Yorkshire Building Society, said: “We’re proud to be investing in sustainable infrastructure that benefits both our business and the environment.
“These results show how impactful our solar installations have been in a short space of time.
“Not only are we reducing our carbon footprint, but we’re also generating clean energy right where it’s needed.
“This is a key step in our journey to Net Zero and complements the renewable energy we already source through the National Grid.”
The solar carports provide sheltered parking for staff while generating energy on site.
They complement existing roof-mounted panels installed at the Rooley Lane offices in 2014 and other Yorkshire locations in 2024.
Yorkshire Building Society has been using renewable energy since 2015.
