24 hour opening for Leeds Road supermarket is approved

A NEW supermarket will be able to open for 24 hours a day once it finally opens its doors.

Permission to convert the former Halfords store on Leeds Road into a supermarket was first granted in late 2017.

A condition of that application’s approval was that the business could only open between 9am and 11pm, with Bradford Council planning officers saying those opening hours were imposed “in the interests of the amenities of neighbouring residents.”

Work is well underway on converting the building, and earlier this year Adil Chaudry, of Al Halal Supermarket Worldwide, submitted an application to change these conditions to allow for 24/7 opening of the shop.

There had been no objections to this application, and the changes were approved by Bradford Council last week.

A noise impact report included in the application pointed out that the entrance to the store would face a McDonalds car park, and not any houses.

Planning officers said: “The impact of the scheme has been carefully assessed and it is considered that the development will have no significant adverse effects in terms of impacts on the amenity of the neighbouring residential properties.”
