Sixteen sites in Yorkshire and the Humber to benefit from £11m funding boost

Sixteen venues across Yorkshire and the Humber are set to benefit from a major funding boost.

The region is set to receive £11 million to support museums, libraries, and cultural facilities.

The funding, part of the government’s new Arts Everywhere Fund, will help expand access, deliver building improvements, and upgrade technology.

The Yorkshire Museum, the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough, and East Riding Libraries are among the 16 sites set to benefit.

Lisa Nandy, Culture Secretary, said: “I want everyone, everywhere to feel a sense of pride about where they come from.

“Cultural organisations across Yorkshire and the Humber are important custodians of local identity and play a key role in the story we tell ourselves as a nation.”

In total, 130 organisations across England will receive a share of funding through the Arts Everywhere Fund, which is part of a wider £1.5 billion investment in cultural infrastructure this parliament.

Of the £11 million announced, £6 million from the Creative Foundations Fund will support urgent improvements at arts venues, including £2.7 million for the Stephen Joseph Theatre.

The funding will support repairs and upgrades to improve accessibility for performers and audiences.

The Museum Estate and Development Fund has allocated £4.2 million to museums, including £2 million for the York Museums Trust to repair the Grade I-listed Yorkshire Museum roof.

Rebecca Ball, area director, North for Arts Council England, said: “Our museums, libraries and arts organisations have the power to change lives, they give us access to new worlds, teach us about our heritage and give us new perspectives on life.”
