Independent bookshop in the running for UK High Street Hero award

AN independent bookshop is in the running for a High Street Hero accolade.

Wave of Nostalgia – in Main Street, Haworth – is among just eight finalists in contention for the honour, which forms part of The Small Awards.

The recognition is for independent businesses that play a key role on high streets and within their communities.

The Small Awards feature nearly a dozen categories, covering all business sectors.

Now in its 10th year, the initiative is organised by Small Business Britain – which champions and supports the nation’s 5.5 million small firms.

Other accolades in the awards scheme include Digital Star, New Kid on the Block, At Your Service, Heart of Gold, Mission Possible, Net Hero, Sole to Sole, Legacy, Bricks and Clicks and Supply Chain Champion.

And there is an overall Small Business of the Year Award.

Judging is carried out by a panel of industry experts.

Winners will be announced at a ceremony taking place at Christ Church, in Spitalfields, London, on May 21.

Michelle Ovens, founder of Small Business Britain, says: “We are so proud to be celebrating a decade of The Small Awards.

“The awards celebrate the very best of the UK’s small business owners, who make such a difference in their local communities and are a key driver of the nation’s economic growth.

“There are 11 different awards for small firms leading the way across everything from sustainability to digital adoption, and showcasing all types of small businesses including social enterprises, family-owned outfits, sole traders and start-ups.

“The awards are a great opportunity to recognise the success and contributions of so many small businesses. Wave of Nostalgia is extremely deserving of being a finalist, and we look forward to celebrating together next month.”

Wave of Nostalgia was established a decade ago, and has earned high acclaim for its offering and work with the community.

Founder and owner Diane Park says: “It is an incredible honour for our business to be recognised in this way.

“It’s only a couple of years since we were awarded the accolade of Best Independent Bookshop in the North of England – but to be selected as one of Britain’s top high street small businesses is on another level.
