Work begins on £780,000 water mains replacement scheme in Bingley

A major mains upgrade is under way.

The £780,000 water mains replacement project has begun in Bingley and is being carried out by Yorkshire Water.

The scheme involves replacing 1,800 metres of clean water mains across Clarendon Road, Heaton Drive, Grange Road, Warren Avenue, Warren Drive, and Cavendish Drive.

Scott Gammon, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “As part of Yorkshire Water’s largest ever investment into its infrastructure, we are delivering a significant upgrade to our clean water network.

“Since April last year, we have replaced over 170km of pipework across the region.

“This area is prone to leaks and bursts, and so this is a vitally important scheme which will help us to deliver the quality and reliability of service that our customers expect – loss of supply and disruption should be much less likely going forward.”

The scheme is part of Yorkshire Water’s wider £406 million investment programme to replace more than 1,000km of mains over the next five years.

It is one of eight projects in the Bradford area alone in the first year of the programme, totalling 16.1km of replaced pipework.

Previous schemes include a £1.5m project in Laisterdyke, a £700,000 project in Oakworth, and a £355,000 scheme in Lower Wyke.

Temporary traffic management will be put in place around the working areas.
