BAK and Southern Connections Ltd a franchise of O2 Telefonica, currently operate 23 stores in the UK and a business centre based at their head office in Pudsey, Leeds. The business has grown over the years and currently employs over 180 staff. On Saturday 11th January BAK LTD held a charity fundraising event at their head office, organised by one of the Directors, Nazneen Khan to help raise funds for Give a Gift in support of Candlelighters, who supports families fighting children’s cancer in Yorkshire, with all funds raised on the night being donated to a great cause.
Give a Gift are a West Yorkshire based charity which aims to help facilitate relations between disadvantaged communities through; supporting, giving, volunteering and raising funds for good causes. With the aid of Give a Gift, the business was able to put on an Arabian themed event; “One thousand and One nights”.
The event invited families and friends to enjoy a fun-filled evening including a charity auction, raffle games, special guest’s speakers; Rifhat Malik MBE (Co-founder of Give a Gift) and Gina Trotter (who has been working with Candlelighters since March 2017). To complete the special night an authentic Arabian cuisine was served to all the guests. With help from all the supporters, BAK managed to raise an amazing £3335.00 through ticket sales and activities on the night. The directors of BAK LTD pledged to match any amount raised from the charity auction on the night.
Nazneen Khan, said: “We were truly overwhelmed with the generosity of all the people that attended. It was a heart-warming to see everyone getting involved for such an amazing cause. Having gone through the tough battles of cancer with both my parents, I felt hosting a fund-raising event in aid of Candlelighters would be the perfect way to support children and families in times of need. The statistic for cancer is truly frightening with 1 in 4 people likely to be diagnosed. Therefore, the more research that is conducted will only help in increasing the fight against cancer.”
Rifhat Malik MBE who is one of the founders of Give a Gift added: “We are incredibly grateful that BAK & Southern Connections, a franchise of O2 Telefonica held such a fantastic event to help us fund the vital service that Candle lighters provide for families & children dealing with the trauma of cancer. All the money raised from the event will help support families through a very difficult time.”
