Computer firm Microsoft is set to be given the go-ahead to build a data centre on the site of a former power station in West Yorkshire.
Jobs could be created if the company is given approval for the redevelopment of the Skelton Grange site in Stourton, south-east of Leeds.
Microsoft said the facility would boost the delivery of goods and services and help with internet access for schools and hospitals.
Leeds City councillors have been recommended to approve the scheme at a plans panel meeting on Thursday, April 23.
A design report said the site was close to the M1 motorway and ten minutes from the city centre.
It said: “Its close proximity to Leeds city centre provides access to a skilled labour force and equally provides access to employment for people within local communities in the vicinity.”
Generators and cooling equipment would need to be installed if the project goes ahead.
Ward councillors and people living nearby were consulted as part of pre-application discussions with the council, the report said.

It said: “Inputs and feedback from the consultation have influenced and shaped the final proposals for the scheme.”
Council planners have recommended that the scheme is delegated to the city’s chief planning officer for approval, subject to conditions.
