Rare piece of artwork created by David Hockney to be sold for up to £15,000

A RARE piece of artwork created by Bradford-born David Hockney when he was a teenager is to go on sale at a show.

Woman with a Sewing Machine, a lithograph made by a 17-year-old Hockney, is to be sold in the Modern and Contemporary Art Sale at Tennants Auctioneers, Leyburn, on June 15 with an estimated price tag of up to £15,000.

The lithograph is being sold by the descendants of Hockney’s school friend and fellow artist, David George Fawcett.

A spokesperson for Tennants Auctioneers said: “The image reflects the exuberance of the artist aged just 17, filled with possibilities and the joy of being allowed to spend his days at college exploring the world of art, and was modelled on his mother, Laura.”
