Bradford district company spearheads £2.3 million redevelopment project

A BRADFORD district company well known for its innovative sports turf work is spearheading a £2.3 million project in the Midlands.

STRI Group – based at the St Ives estate, Harden – is heading up the redevelopment of an area surrounding Vale Park Stadium, home of Port Vale Football Club, in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent.

The Vale Park Community Campus scheme will include the creation of two youth football pitches, a multi-use games area suitable for children with special educational needs and disabilities, padel courts and walking trails, and improved CCTV, lighting and signage.

There will also be a new community hub building.

Ecological improvements and sustainable drainage systems will be put in place to ensure the project exceeds ‘green’ standards.

Full planning, design and delivery is being carried out by STRI, working closely with a governance team comprising representatives of the football club and its foundation and Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

Community consultation, and planning and design works, are currently underway.

STRI’s development director, James Podesta, says: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with the club, foundation and council to deliver this pivotal project which will have such a positive social and environmental impact.

“There will be opportunities for additional partners, businesses and providers to come on board with the exciting plans.

“We hope the scheme will inspire younger generations to become part of the community and see for themselves the opportunities the campus can provide.

“With planning work now in full flow, we’re looking forward to sharing updates with club fans and the wider community as we progress.”

Government funding has been secured for the venture, which is marking the football club’s 150th anniversary.

Councillor Jane Ashworth – leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council and cabinet member for economic development, culture and sport – says: “This project is fantastic news for Port Vale and the surrounding area.

“It is a transformational scheme that will bring so many benefits to the community in terms of health, leisure and potential employment opportunities.

“It also forms part of wider regeneration projects taking place in the north of the city.”

Carol Shanahan, owner and chair of Port Vale FC, says: “This is more than just a park upgrade – it’s a catalyst for positive change in the community.

“We are creating a place where people can be active, connect with others and feel proud of their area. The campus will provide a platform for long-term community activity, health support and wellbeing opportunities across all ages and abilities, whilst creating a better community connection to our club.”
