Rugby legend opens new Cleckheaton HQ for painting company

Rugby league legend Kevin Sinfield CBE cut the blue ribbon at the official opening of Bagnalls’ new Cleckheaton head office.

The ceremony marked a ‘major milestone’ for the national painting and decorating contractor, which has operated for nearly 150 years and employs more than 650 people across the UK.

Mr Sinfield delivered a speech on his ‘Seven Attributes of being a Champion Team’, drawing parallels between success in sport and business.

Stephen Bagnall, group managing director and fifth-generation member of the Bagnall family, also addressed the audience.

He reflected on the company’s long history, including its early work with Dulux paint, and said: “Bagnalls was chosen by the then manufacturers, ICI, to test the first batches of the newly formulated paint before the brand Dulux was launched in 1931.”

Guests enjoyed a live painting demonstration by apprentices Owen, Emily, and Faith, who showcased their skills.

The event also celebrated Bagnalls’ recent achievement of the Princess Royal Training Award, which recognises organisations with outstanding training and development programmes.

The award was formally approved by HRH The Princess Royal and highlights Bagnalls’ commitment to investing in people and professional growth.

The company’s apprenticeship programme was one of only 57 to receive the award this year.
