Major works set to begin along two busy roads in Halifax

MAJOR water mains replacement works are set to begin in Halifax.

Yorkshire Water will start a £572,000 upgrade in Hipperholme, replacing 1,426 metres of water mains to improve the network’s resilience and reliability.

The scheme is part of the company’s wider £406 million investment to renew more than 1,000 kilometres of water mains across the region over the next five years.

Scott Gammon, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “This essential upgrade will provide a robust and reliable clean water network, reducing leakage and the likelihood of future bursts, minimising disruption for our customers in the area.”

The works are scheduled to begin on Monday, September 8, and will be delivered by contract partner Sapphire Utility Solutions.

Work will focus on Halifax Road and Leeds Road, starting at the junction of Halifax Road (A58) and Tanhouse Hill, with further works planned for Barfield Road and Thompson Close.

Mr Gammon added: “We’re working closely with local highways and to keep everyone safe there will be a temporary road closure at the junction with a signed diversion in place for approximately two weeks.”

Yorkshire Water is contacting local residents to keep them updated about progress and planned works which is scheduled to complete by Christmas 2025.
