Festive launch at The Broadway promises to be ‘bigger and better than ever’ this year

BOSSES at The Broadway in Bradford say this year’s festive launch will be “bigger and better than ever” – as the shopping centre celebrates its 10th anniversary.

The Broadway officially opened on November 5, 2015.

A spokesperson for The Broadway told the Telegraph & Argus this week: “The Broadway is proud to be celebrating its 10th anniversary this November.

“To mark the milestone, this year’s festive launch on Saturday, November 8, will be bigger and better than ever, bringing extra sparkle to the celebrations.”

The spokesperson added that The Broadway expects to give more details about the festive launch after a fashion event which will take place at the centre on October 4.

Work began on The Broadway in 2004 but it was halted in 2008 due to the global financial crisis, resulting in some residents referring to the 12-acre site left by builders as the “Bradford hole”.

The Broadway was officially opened by 2008 X Factor winner Alexandra Burke.

At the time of its opening, the T&A reported: “Thousands of people poured in as the doors of Bradford’s The Broadway shopping centre were officially opened this morning.

“The big event saw celebrities, local community heroes, and officials taking part in a glitzy ceremony before members of the public rushed in at 10am.

“Today’s big event was welcomed across the district as X Factor star Alexandra Burke did the honours at the £260 million development’s main entrance, opposite Little Germany, as community heroes opened other entrances at the same time.”

Then-Bradford Council leader David Green said: “I think the opening of The Broadway has had a massive effect on the confidence and belief of people in Bradford.

“People are beginning to wake up and believe in Bradford again.

“That is the biggest benefit that The Broadway’s opening brings.”

The Broadway’s website states: “The Broadway, situated in the centre of the Bradford community, caters to diverse preferences.

“We offer an extensive range of shops, including renowned brands, fashion favourites and over 90 top high street names.

“Featuring a variety of food and drink establishments, numerous shopping opportunities and a boutique cinema, The Broadway is the ultimate place to shop, watch, eat and play.”

In recent weeks, the T&A has reported on a number of new openings at The Broadway, including food outlets Jamaica Blue and BOO.
