Here’s when rail timetable changes are coming to Northern trains

Customers are being warned that rail timetable changes are on the way.

Northern has issued a reminder to passengers ahead of updates that will take effect from Sunday, December 14, 2025, as part of the national timetable change.

The new schedules are designed to improve connectivity and reliability across the North of England, with some routes offering later evening services and additional peak-time trains.

Matt Rice, chief operating officer for Northern, said: “The upcoming timetable changes reflect our focus on improving connectivity, strengthening reliability and offering more convenient services across the North of England.

“We are pleased to be able to offer later trains in the evening following customer feedback on some of our routes, and extra trains during peak times on others.

“I’d urge customers to check their journeys in advance as there will be some significant changes in place, and particularly during the December engineering period.”

Northern recommends that passengers check their journeys in advance using its app or the National Rail Enquiries journey planner.

This includes a line closure between Leeds and York from Christmas until late January as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade.

Full details of the timetable changes can be found on Northern’s website.
