Northern launches campaign to show train travel costs less than you think

Train operator Northern has launched a campaign to show that travelling by train costs less than many everyday purchases.

The campaign wants to challenge the perception that rail travel is always expensive, highlighting that many off-peak fares cost less than everyday items like takeaway coffees, meal deals, or streaming subscriptions.

Alex Hornby, Commercial and Customer Director for Northern, said: “There’s a big misunderstanding out there that train travel always comes with a high price tag – and it simply isn’t true.

“Millions of the tickets we sell every year cost just £5 or less.”

As part of the campaign, Northern is hosting gameshow-inspired ‘Higher or Lower’ events in Leeds and Manchester, inviting the public to guess whether a train ticket costs more or less than common purchases.

The events will be held at Trinity Shopping Centre in Leeds on Thursday, October 30, and at Manchester Arndale on Friday, October 31, from 10am to 3pm.
