TransPennine Express is on the lookout for more than 50 new staff.
The train operator is recruiting up to 53 conductors to join its network across the North of England, including York, as part of an ongoing hiring drive to fill vacancies created by retirements, promotions, or staff moving to other companies.
Successful candidates will join a talent pool and be first in line when positions become available.
Andrew McClements, customer experience and transformation director at TransPennine Express, said: “We are looking for customer-focused people with excellent communication skills who thrive in a fast-paced environment and may not have considered a career in rail before.
“Successful applicants will demonstrate a high level of responsibility, a strong work ethic and a commitment to maintaining safety standards.”
As well as eight roles based in York, up to five could be available at each of TPE’s depots in Cleethorpes, Sheffield, Preston, Manchester Piccadilly, Manchester Airport, Liverpool, Newcastle, Hull and Scarbough.
Applicants do not need previous rail industry experience, and new recruits will undergo around three months of training before becoming qualified conductors.
The starting salary is £27,877, rising to £36,411 upon qualification, and includes benefits such as free and discounted rail travel.
Mr McClements added: “We want our workforce to reflect the communities we serve and we’re proud to include people from all walks of life in our team.
“So, if you are thinking of changing careers or are just starting working life, this could be the role for you.”
