Seven Bradford staff receive Chief Nursing Awards for contributions

A group of healthcare professionals in Bradford have been recognised for their outstanding care and dedication.

Seven senior nurses and an assistant practitioner from Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have received Chief Nursing Awards, celebrating their exceptional contributions to patient care and support for colleagues.

The awards were presented in a surprise ceremony by Julie Clennell, regional director of nursing and clinical quality for NHS England North East and Yorkshire.

Karen Dawber, chief nurse at the trust, said: “It’s testament to our fantastic nursing and support colleagues that when we made these nominations they resulted in eight awards – I’m delighted for all of them as they are simply the best, and I’m so proud that we have them here in Bradford.”

The Chief Nursing Awards recognise outstanding contributions to nursing in England.

Among the winners was Arlinda Caven, ward matron at Westwood Park Community Hospital, who was honoured for her leadership, dedication and service to the Filipino community.

Meena Bashir, clinical site matron at Bradford Royal Infirmary, was recognised for her work in strengthening community relationships and ensuring patient safety during out-of-hours care.

During Ramadan, Ms Bashir and her sister Razwana arranged for food to be delivered one evening to enable their colleagues across the trust to break the fast together.

Razwana Bashir, renal matron, was also honoured for her efforts to improve the experiences of patients and families in renal care.

Raquel Licas, fit testing clinical sister and chair of the trust’s race equality staff inclusion network, was praised for her open, inclusive leadership and commitment to celebrating diversity.

Jeanne Poblacion, known as JP, was recognised for over the past 21 years of mentoring internationally educated nurses and supporting their transition into the trust.

Julie Wilson, mortuary manager, was commended for her compassionate work in improving all aspects of care for deceased patients and the trust’s mortuary service provision.

Simon Kirk, general manager for radiology and imaging, was acknowledged for his advocacy and support as a veterans’ ambassador and for ensuring staff voices are heard.

In addition to the nursing awards, a Chief Nursing Award for Healthcare Support Workers was presented to Donna Greenwood, endocrine assistant practitioner.

Ms Greenwood was recognised for developing a vital role within the endocrine team, managing referrals and allowing specialist nurses to focus more time on patient care.
