Leeds University spin-out moves head office from Bradford to Skipton

A research team’s change of location away from Bradford has brought new opportunities for growth, collaboration, and wellbeing.

Luto Research, a Leeds University spin-out specialising in patient information and medical device usability testing, has moved its head office from Bradford to the Broughton Sanctuary estate near Skipton.

The business, which has operated for 20 years and is now led by CEO Wayne Middleton, works with global pharmaceutical companies to make medicines information clearer and more accessible.

Mr Middleton said: “Our modern barn conversion at Broughton Sanctuary provides an ideal space for our team and clients to collaborate.”

The relocation is part of the company’s efforts to improve company culture, staff wellbeing, and links with the regional business community.

The relocation also signals a commitment to bringing global business into Yorkshire.

With a client list that includes top 20 pharmaceutical companies and health innovators across Europe and North America, Luto channels international investment into the region while drawing on its academic roots at the University of Leeds.

Craig Brown, Engagement Director at Luto Research, said: “We expect the move to strengthen our collaboration across Yorkshire’s vibrant business ecosystem.”

The Broughton Sanctuary estate is known for its focus on wellbeing and sustainability, and Luto intends to build on that by working closely with local suppliers, business networks, and community initiatives.

Roger Tempest, custodian of the Broughton Estate, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Luto Research to the Broughton Estate.

“Their values and ethos align closely with ours, making them a natural fit for our community.

“It’s fantastic to see a health-focused business join the estate, further enriching the diversity and purpose of our shared space.”

The move coincides with the expansion of Luto’s creative arm, iC, which provides evidence-based creative services such as digital signage for community pharmacies and hospitals across the UK.

Based at Broughton Sanctuary, iC will continue to deliver design, content, and digital health communications, supporting communication with patients at the point of care.
