The Transpennine Route Upgrade’s (TRU) West Alliance has won ‘The Most Outstanding Award’ from the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) in their National Site Awards.
The TRU’s West Alliance, which is delivering major improvements between Manchester and Leeds, received the top honour at the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) National Site Awards.
The award recognises excellence in areas including workforce care, environmental protection, and community engagement.
Gareth Williams, sustainability director for TRU West, said: “This national recognition reflects our team’s dedication to delivering major infrastructure improvements while maintaining the highest standards of consideration for our communities, workforce, and environment.
“The award validates our approach to responsible construction practices, it’s not just what we build but how we build that matters.”
The TRU West Alliance has implemented several sustainability initiatives, including the use of solar and wind-powered equipment, ultra-low carbon tarmac, and the reuse of more than 10,000 tonnes of recycled materials.
The wider programme has also created social value, with 410 apprentices working on the project and more than 64,000 children engaged through STEAM education programmes.
Desiree Blamey, managing director for the Considerate Constructors Scheme, said: “The Transpennine Route Upgrade shows what’s possible when infrastructure is delivered with genuine care.”
