A new, newly refurbished facility has officially opened to support care in the Bradford community.
Located in Saltaire, the centre in Victoria Road will serve North Bradford’s Community Mental Health Team (CMHT).
The facility is part of the Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust’s Smarter Spaces programme, which aims to modernise clinical and therapeutic environments across the district.
Eleanor Wilde, programme manager for Smarter Spaces at Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The opening of the new facility at New Mill represents a major step forward in creating modern, therapeutic spaces that truly meet the needs of our patients and staff.
“Somerset House served the community well for many years, but the building was no longer suitable for the kind of care we aspire to deliver.
“New Mill offers a bright, accessible and sustainable space that supports both clinical excellence and staff wellbeing.
“It’s a fantastic example of how we’re future-proofing our estate to meet the evolving needs of our services.”
The new facility replaces Somerset House in Shipley and offers a single-level, accessible environment with improved transport links and upgraded therapeutic spaces.
The move is part of the trust’s wider plan to update care settings throughout Bradford.
Patients will continue to receive care from the same North Bradford CMHT staff, ensuring continuity of care despite the change in location.
Simon Brady, clinical manager for community mental health at the trust, said: “The team and our patients have already noticed a real difference.
“The new environment at New Mill is purpose-designed for mental health care – it’s calming, accessible and welcoming.
“Having everything on one level makes it easier for people to access the support they need, and the improved surroundings make a huge difference to how care feels.
“It’s a great step forward for everyone who uses or delivers our services.”
The opening event was attended by staff, service users, and partners, with Dr Sal Uka, interim chief medical officer, cutting the ribbon.
The Smarter Spaces programme is focused on delivering high-quality, person-centred care in safe, modern, and sustainable settings.
By investing in upgraded facilities, the trust aims to support both clinical excellence and staff wellbeing while meeting the evolving needs of the community.
The trust remains committed to delivering sustainable, person-centred mental health care.
