Live music and community spirit are taking centre stage in Bradford thanks to a new addition.
A new piano has been installed in Darley Street Market as part of the Leeds & Bradford Piano Trail, a project organised by the Leeds Piano Competition to bring music into public spaces and encourage people of all ages and abilities to play.
The piano joins three others already located in The Broadway shopping centre in Bradford, Airedale Shopping Centre in Keighley, and Cliffe Castle Museum, and will remain at the market for public use throughout the year.
To mark the launch, a special event will be held in the Darley Street Kitchen on the top floor of the market on Saturday, January 17.
Bradford-based band Flying Funk will perform two 40-minute sets from 5pm, featuring re-imagined covers, classic funk and pieces with a Latin twist.
George Oates, creative learning and engagement assistant at the Leeds International Piano Competition, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Darley Street Market on to Bradford Piano Trail and are very excited to have a presence at a location so focused on live music.”
