Number of job centre claimants drops by 13% across Bradford district

Bradford Jobcentres are gearing up for a busy year with an expanded programme of support for jobseekers, including new employer partnerships, job fairs and targeted schemes for young people and those aged over 50.

The district’s claimant count has fallen by 13 per cent over the past year, with an even sharper 20 per cent drop among over‑50s.

Jenifer Ward, partnership manager for Bradford Jobcentres, said 2026 was “shaping up to be a really exciting year,” with a renewed focus on working closely with local employers. The programme includes an Apprenticeship Jobs Fair at the Broadway Shopping Centre on February 12.

Jobcentres are expanding links with firms including ASDA – where employability courses are being delivered for young people – and Tiffin Sandwiches, alongside continuing collaborations with partners such as Yorkshire Water’s contractor MGroup.

Ms Ward said: “These partnerships are crucial in helping people move into work more quickly, with better job matches and real opportunities across a wide range of sectors.

“There are always hundreds of vacancies available on the Find a Job website – from hospitality and retail to logistics and social care – and our teams are committed to helping people take their next step towards meaningful, long-term employment throughout 2026.

“Our Youth Hubs will continue to play a vital role in helping young people navigate the world of work.

“Whether it’s CV support, interview coaching, or introductions to local employers, we’re here to offer hands-on guidance that builds confidence and opens doors.

“Our message to jobseekers is simple: if you’re ready to start your journey, 2026 could be the year your next opportunity begins.”

Building on successes from 2025, including a project with MGroup to recruit Yorkshire Water’s water meter fitters, Jobcentres will continue working closely with employers.

Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Pat McFadden said: “Today’s figures show there are 513,000 more people in work compared to this time last year, but also highlights why we must go further, especially for our young people.”
