New industrial development on track to create 120 jobs

WORK is underway on a new industrial development expected to create 120 jobs.

The project, led by the Bradford-based Nano Park Company, will see the construction of 13 industrial units with office space on the site of the former Wappy Springs Inn on Lindley Moor Road in Huddersfield.

Edward Marshall, director at Nano Park Company, said: “Once upon a time, the Wappy Spring was a famous Huddersfield landmark.

“Sadly, over recent years, the lack of active use has contributed to ongoing issues, creating an unattractive and problematic space that serves no benefit at all to the local community.

“Our 12,000 sq ft development provides the opportunity to bring the site back into positive use, addressing these long-standing concerns while delivering significant economic and social benefits, including creating 120 new and sustainable jobs.”

The site has remained vacant for several years and has attracted anti-social behaviour, including fly-tipping, arson and vandalism.

The new Nano Park aims to address these issues while providing much-needed industrial, office and storage space in the town.

Councillor Cahal Burke welcomed the investment and the confidence it shows in the Lindley area.

He said: “We wish to thank the Nano Park Company for their willingness to invest in Kirklees, and, in particular, in this part of the Lindley ward.

“The interest shown in developing this site demonstrates confidence in the local area and its economic potential.

“This development will bring an underused site back into productive use while delivering lasting benefits for the local economy and community.”

Construction is being carried out by Percy Pickard Contractors, with the units expected to be ready for occupation by spring or summer next year.

Kirklees councillors Cahal Burke, Anthony Smith and Ashleigh Ronison, along with planning officer Louise Bearcroft, were also recognised by Mr Marshall for their role in bringing the project to life.
