A new wave of digital interns is helping to modernise manufacturing.
Manufacturers across West Yorkshire, including Brighouse, are introducing automation, artificial intelligence, and digital systems through the Made Smarter Yorkshire Digital Internship Programme.
One Brighouse-based business already seeing results is Ebar, which produces automated beverage systems.
Nick Beeson, managing director and co-founder of Ebar, said: “Sai has helped us develop a digital inspection capability that strengthens the reliability of our automated systems.
“The internship has allowed us to progress a project that improves accuracy and supports smarter manufacturing processes.”
Sai Kushal Chakka, an MSc electrical automotive engineering graduate from Coventry University, supported the project through the internship programme, which offers businesses access to specialist digital talent through funded three-month placements.
Siouxnice Walker, senior internship coordinator for Made Smarter Yorkshire, said: “It’s fantastic to see the immediate and measurable impact this cohort of digital interns is having on manufacturers across the region.
“What we are seeing across Yorkshire is not just experimentation, but acceleration.

“Manufacturers are embedding automation, data systems and digital platforms into live environments, improving productivity and competitiveness and, in some cases, creating permanent roles as a direct result.”
The programme is delivered by Sheffield Hallam University and funded by the Government.
