Major manufacturing site faces shutdown as around 450 workers vote to strike over pay

A major manufacturing site is facing shutdown.

Around 450 workers at the Cummins automotive turbo components factory in Huddersfield have voted to strike in an ongoing dispute over pay.

The strike is expected to disrupt the global supply chain, affecting companies including Volvo, DAF, and Scania.

Unite the Union said workers had rejected a two-year pay offer of 4.5 per cent in year one and 4 per cent in year two, which was conditional on less flexible annual leave arrangements.

Sharon Graham, general secretary of Unite, said: “Cummins is a hugely profitable company that can more than afford to put forward an acceptable pay offer.”

Dan Stephens, regional officer at Unite, said: “Cummins’ clients will not be happy that their operations will be disrupted because of the company’s greed.

“This dispute will continue to escalate until Cummins returns to the negotiating table with an offer our members can accept.”
