Baildon photographer wins major international prize using just an iPhone

A Baildon photographer has won first place in a major global competition for a striking image captured on her iPhone.

Louise Rayner, who has more than 30 years’ experience behind the camera, took the top spot in the People category at the International Mobile Photography Awards, one of the world’s leading contests celebrating images shot on smartphones.

Reacting to her win, she said: “I’m honestly a bit speechless. Last year I was thrilled just to be recognised, so to come back this year and win feels really special.”

Louise previously created the ‘Portraits of Our Time’ exhibition at Bradford Industrial Museum, which featured care recipients and a cherished item that reflected a meaningful moment to them.

Inspired by her own personal connection, Louise began the project at Elderthorpe Care Home in Shipley, where her mother Brenda lives.

Louise has increasingly focused on mobile photography in recent years and has been recognised in several major competitions, including reaching the finals of the World Food Photography Awards last year.

Ms Rayner added: “It’s a reminder to keep going and keep putting your work out there… you never quite know where it might lead.”

Alongside her own practice, Louise also delivers phone‑photography workshops across Yorkshire, helping people get the most out of the cameras they carry every day.

The Mobile Photography Awards attract entries from around the world and are regarded as one of the most prominent competitions in the genre.
