Bradford firm to cut 67 jobs as it addresses ‘rising costs and declining demand’

A BRADFORD manufacturing firm is set to cut 67 jobs as it addresses “rising costs and declining demand”.

Solenis has a chemical plant on Cleckheaton Road in Low Moor, with its distinctive buildings forming a prominent feature in the area.

The firm says the redundancies are part of a series of measures positioning it for further growth.

All employees have been informed, and Solenis says it will engage in a “meaningful” consultation process with the GMB union to “maintain transparency and explore ways to mitigate the impact”.

Solenis remains “committed to supporting its Bradford workforce and seeking new growth opportunities.”

The Bradford site became part of Solenis in 2019, after a merger with BASF.

According to its website, the site is one of the largest and most productive single-owner chemical plants in the UK.

Solenis itself is a leading global producer of speciality chemicals and is headquartered in the US.

A spokesperson for the firm said: “On May 21, 2025, Solenis announced a series of measures for its Bradford manufacturing site to address rising costs and declining demand while positioning for future growth.

“These measures include continued investment in facilities and processes, reinforcing Solenis’ commitment to innovation and sustainability.

“Employee roles will also be broadened to create more opportunities and foster a more adaptable work environment.

“However, as part of this approach, Solenis is proposing a reduction of 67 positions at the site to align operations with current market conditions and ensure long-term stability.

“All employees have been informed, and Solenis will engage in a meaningful consultation process with the GMB union to maintain transparency and explore ways to mitigate the impact.

“Like other UK chemical manufacturers, Solenis continues to face challenges from rising energy costs and raw material prices but remains committed to supporting its Bradford workforce and seeking new growth opportunities.”
