A BRADFORD district brewery has launched a special beer to mark City of Culture year.
Saltaire Brewery is throwing its support behind the celebration by unveiling the beer, called Be Bold, which is now on sale.
Nick Helliwell, managing director of Saltaire Brewery, said: “Our new beer, Be Bold, is a real celebration of Bradford’s vibrant and creative spirit.
“It’s heavily hopped with Nelson Sauvin, a variety known for its fruity, tropical flavours. The result is a refreshing and bold beer with an added tropical twist. It’s available now in bottles, and will also be on cask at the beginning of next week.”
He added: “As a proud Bradford-based brewery, we couldn’t be more thrilled to support Bradford 2025. It’s an incredible opportunity to showcase the city’s creativity, diversity and rich culture.
“We believe it will inspire pride in the community and bring national and international attention to Bradford. For us, this beer is our way of toasting to the city’s exciting future.
“We’re really looking forward to the celebrations that are happening throughout the year.”
Bradford City of Culture officially launched at the weekend.
An estimated 20,000 people defied freezing weather conditions to attend performances of RISE in the heart of the city on Friday and Saturday.
The show involved a cast of 200 people, including 10-year-old rapper Cruzy T, poet Kirsty Taylor, a live orchestra, musicians and dancers.
Magician Steven Frayne, formerly known as Dynamo, also made an appearance – wowing crowds with his tricks as he told of his pride at coming from Bradford.
Bradford 2025 creative director Shanaz Gulzar said the event had shown that the city was “incredibly diverse, representative, resilient and strong, and capable of doing magical, impossible things”.
Saltaire Brewery began in 2003 over a laboratory bench when founder Tony Gartland met Derek Todd, an industrial chemist, at a brewing course in Newcastle.
They had no idea then that starting one of the earliest microbreweries in Yorkshire would grow into the brewery and packaging facility it is today, producing more than five million pints of beer a year for drinkers around the globe.
Be Bold can be bought via the Saltaire Brewery website at saltairebrewery.com/products/be-bold
