Families in Bradford urged to warn children about dangers of electricity

Families across Bradford are being urged to talk to children about the dangers of electricity this Easter.

Northern Powergrid is reminding parents and guardians across the North East, Yorkshire, and northern Lincolnshire to raise awareness among young people about the risks associated with electricity, as children spend more time playing outdoors.

The company warns that contact with electrical equipment can lead to serious injury or death, as high-voltage electricity can jump through the air.

Gareth Pearson, director of health, safety, and training at Northern Powergrid, said: “The Easter holiday period is a busy time for all families, but we’d ask parents and guardians to make sure that their children are aware of the dangers of electricity and know the free 105 number to call if they accidentally kick a football into a substation, or manoeuvre a powered toy, or drone, into overhead power lines.

“Play and stay safe; keep well away from the power network and enjoy your Easter holidays.”
