A Bradford dentist has launched a new subscription‑based dental practice to address the national shortage of affordable NHS dentistry.
Dr Syed Fraz Ali, a Bradford‑born dentist and entrepreneur, has opened a new dental practice called ‘Brilliant Health Smiles’ on Kirkgate in the heart of the city centre.
According to the Care Quality Commission, the new service was officially registered on November 21, 2025.
With millions struggling to secure an NHS dental appointment, Dr Ali says his new practice offers something different; a much‑needed “bridge” between private dentistry and NHS care.
Dr Ali described the practice as the ‘first-of-its-kind’.
He added: “I wanted to create a system that delivers accessible and affordable dental care for the community.”
How it works
The practice runs on a £9.95 monthly subscription plan for adults, while children under 18 receive free care. Patients then pay treatment fees in line with the NHS Band 1, 2 and 3 pricing structure.
The model, he says, replicates NHS treatment pricing while remaining financially sustainable through a fixed monthly subscription.
Dr Ali said the subscription replaces the government‘s “top‑up” funding received by NHS practices, allowing his clinic to cover overheads without increasing patient fees.
According to Dr Ali, the service would provide the same range of treatments available on the NHS, but delivered with “higher‑grade equipment, modern digital systems’ with many of the profits put towards upgrading their equipment.
They will also follow a standard 9am to 5pm working day, similar to the hours kept by many NHS dental practitioners.
Using AI to enhance patient care
Brilliant Healthy Smiles also hopes to introduce tools such as AI‑assisted X-rays, automated online booking and a 24/7 WhatsApp chatbot for routine queries.
However, Dr Ali said they have opted not to adopt AI reception systems currently being trialled in the NHS.
He said: “Technology isn’t at a level we’re satisfied with yet… Our priority is efficiency without compromising patient experience.”
The practice, registered eight weeks ago, plans to see its first patients from April 1, with capacity for up to 12,000 people. More than 120 patients have already signed up following soft-launch marketing.
Dr Ali, who has previously worked across sectors including construction, property, and hospitality, said his motivation was rooted in giving back to Bradford.
He said: “I felt it was time to contribute something meaningful to the community that supported me. This model is about helping local people access the dental care they deserve.”

The team hopes to expand the model nationally if the Bradford pilot proves successful.
For new patients, BHS suggests registering on their website, by providing your date of birth, address and contact information. New patients are not limited to the Bradford district, with some of their new patients coming from as far away as Cardiff and Nottingham.
