Multimillion-pound eye clinic and surgical centre opens in Cleckheaton

A new multimillion-pound eye clinic and surgical centre has opened in Cleckheaton.

Newmedica has shared news of the opening of the site, which will support both NHS and private patients.

The clinic will care for people throughout Bradford, Huddersfield, and surrounding areas with a range of eye conditions.

This includes cataract surgery, oculoplastics for conditions around the eye such as drooping eyelids or the removal of lumps, and YAG laser treatment.

Councillor Nosheen Dad, Mayor of Kirklees Council, attended the official opening ceremony.

She said: “It is great to see businesses like Newmedica ready to invest in the borough and provide employment opportunities.

“This new facility represents not just a building, but a commitment to improving the vision and health of our communities.

“I want to thank all the staff and those involved in opening this clinic for the care they will be delivering to individuals.”

The clinic opened to the public last month, and the opening ceremony gave guests the opportunity to view the facilities for themselves.

Newmedica Bradford and Huddersfield is owned and led by consultant ophthalmologists Aidan Benson, Ahmed Bardan, Mohammed Mohyudin, Nabil El-Hindy, and Francesco Pillitteri, alongside operations director Stuart Cannonier.

The clinic currently employs a team of 18 and plans to recruit more staff from the community as the business grows.

Mr Cannonier said: “We’re delighted to be helping the Bradford and Huddersfield communities and surrounding areas with their eyecare needs.

“The clinic is locally owned and led, with our staff having strong links in and around the city, so we are keen to support the community in every way we can.

“Eye health is incredibly important to us all and, as with any medical condition, the more quickly something is treated, the better the outcome is likely to be.”

A spokesperson added: “Newmedica Bradford and Huddersfield is focused on supporting the NHS to help drive down waiting times so that more patients receive eye care services as quickly as possible.”

In the near future, the clinic plans to offer expertise and facilities to help train new NHS surgeons.

Mr El-Hindy, consultant and clinical lead for the clinic, said: “In addition to the patients we see, we are enjoying working with local optometrists and other partners, ensuring that our joined-up working across the system provides patients with the treatment they need and deserve in a timely manner.”
