A NEW £4m discount store will officially open in the Bradford district this weekend.
Plans to build a huge new Home Bargains store at Shipley Wharf Retail Park were approved in April 2023.
The store in the retail park, located at the junction of Salts Mill Road and Otley Road, is next to the Lidl and Costa.
When will Shipley’s second Home Bargains store be open?
Home Bargains is creating 62 jobs and 50 are new hires in the local community.
The new ‘Shipley 2’ store will complement the existing Shipley outlet.
The 15,317sq. ft store will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks, and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.
It will open on Saturday, January 25 at 8am.
Excitement builds ahead of opening
Craig Smith, the new Shipley 2 store manager, said he was “super excited to be opening my first new store for Home Bargains”.
He added: “I’m looking forward to seeing all the planning and hard work come to life and be a success.
“The entire team is eager to see our shop open and to welcome new and existing customers.
“I’m excited to see what our local customers think of the extended range of products the new store has to offer.”
Mr Smith added: “Our second Shipley location will be a great store for us, and we’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”
Home Bargains reduces signs
Although plans for the second Shipley store were approved last year, the building’s location within the ‘buffer zone’ for the nearby Saltaire World Heritage Site meant any signage planned for the building also needed to be approved by Bradford Council before installation.
Last May, Home Bargains agreed to reduce the size of its bright red signs on its new store after concerns were raised they could harm views of the UNESCO site.
The retailer said it would install more “modest” signage on its new store after Conservation Officers hit out at the “massive” branding originally planned for the building.
Ambitious plans for Home Bargains
With more than five million customers each week, Home Bargains is one of the country’s best-loved discount retailers, stocking top-quality branded goods at low prices.
Established over 40 years ago in Old Swan, Liverpool, the family-run business has grown to become one of the largest privately-owned companies in the UK.
The company intends to continue its rapid expansion and has ambitious plans to grow to 1000 stores and 35,000 staff.
