New art deco-inspired spot to offer luxury afternoon teas

A NEW tearoom is set to open in Bingley this year, offering luxury afternoon teas and bottomless brunches in a clean 60s art deco environment.

Soreta Brierley, 42, has always wanted to open a tearoom and, after 22 years working in dentistry, her dream is set to come true.

The new Bingley Tea Room will be opening in the former Costa, in the 5 Rise Shopping Centre, which closed this June.

Soreta, who is from Bingley, said: “I’ve always to own my own tearoom and Costa was closing and leaving the building so I put in a bid and the landlord accepted.

“Several people had put in business plans, so I’m glad mine was chosen. I had been looking for the right space for a long time and it’s been a bit of a whirlwind since. I put the application in and got the keys in six weeks. I’ve been working hard to get open as quickly as possible.”

The tearooms will offer afternoon tea in a range of packages, including a basic, luxury and a deluxe package offering prosecco, alongside bottomless brunch and a small lunch menu.

She said: “I know a lot of people will want tea and cake and we’ll be doing that as well as a small lunch menu, but our main thing is afternoon tea.

“We’ll be doing packages, and we’ve got our alcohol license as well. It’s going to be a great place for baby showers, bridal showers and small events.”

To cater for a diverse range of people, there will also be a halal afternoon tea on offer as well as African and Asian twists. This includes Moroccan mint tea, Turkish tea and Kulfi desserts.

All the food and cakes will be cooked and baked on the premises and sourced from local suppliers.

The premises has had a lot of work done to it, and looks nothing like the previous store.

Soreta added: “We’ve had a ceiling pillar put in and next to that will be the main table, which will be for larger groups. “It’s slowly coming together.”

The tearoom boasts a modern 60s art deco theme, with heavy tablecloths and a clean, fresh look.

“I’ve always loved to bake and this is something I have always wanted to do,” Soreta said.

“The right place went up at the right time but this has been in the plans for  a few years.”

Soreta hopes to open Bingley Tea Room in the next couple of weeks.
