A play café designed for families is set to open later this month.
‘Dewdrops’ will launch in Apperley Bridge on March 23, offering a space for parents to unwind while their children play.
Founded by sisters Jenny and Helen Dewhirst, the café blends good coffee, quality food, and a safe, community-focused play environment for young children.
Jenny said: “It’s been a little dream of ours to create a safe, welcoming space for children and families.
“While the café is centred around children’s play, we also wanted a space where parents can relax and enjoy a treat knowing their little one is safe and not far away.
“Having young children ourselves, we know how important it is for parents to be able to have those little pause and refuel moments, and we hope to provide that for them.”
Named ‘Dewdrops’ after a family nickname, the café is also a tribute to the sisters’ grandfather, Sydney Dewhirst, who ran Dewhirst Coaches in Bradford.
Sydney Dewhirst died in 2021, and the sisters say the café is a way to honour both his name and the values he represented.
As part of that tribute, the café will feature ride-on toy coaches branded with the Dewhirst name, in a nod to the family’s transport legacy.
Helen said: “It’s been an amazing journey so far and we are just getting started.
“Both myself and Jenny come from a childcare background and are firm believers of learning through play.
“We have documented our journey from start to finish across our social media as we couldn’t wait to share the news.
“It’s not been easy but we know it’s going to be worth it.
“Every child deserves to explore and every parent deserves to relax.
“We can’t wait to welcome families and give little ones a place to make happy memories.”
The café will officially open to the public on March 23, following two successful open days.
