Esholt Post Office, in Main Street has been brought to the market by Ernest Wilson Business Agents.
The quaint building is situated in the heart of the village that was once the home of Emmerdale.
The soap was originally filmed in the village of Arncliffe in Littondale, before coming to Esholt where it remained until 1998, when filming moved to a purpose-built set on the Harewood estate.
Three generations of the same family have run the Esholt Post Office and it is described as “a beloved part of village life”, according to Ernest Wilson.
It is looking for offers of just under £40,000 for the business and is “keen to find a like-minded buyer to continue and enhance its vital service” and a “new talent to bring this Post Office into the 21st century”.
Ernest Wilson adds on its website: “This is an extremely rare opportunity to acquire a Post Office which has been in the same family for three generations and is situated in a bustling tourist village.
“The village attracts large numbers of tourists and the business does a thriving trade in gifts.”
The business has a weekly retail turnover of £600, with a Post Office remuneration of £22,000 per year, according to Ernest Wilson.
It comes with accommodation.
There is a lounge, then a combined bathroom and two bedrooms on the first floor, as well as including a garden and single garage.
Ernest Wilson says on its website: “Run in easy hours over four days and two half days per week.
“The property is held on a good lease, however the landlord has previously indicated that they may be prepared to sell the freehold albeit some time ago.
“The premises comprise olde worlde sales shop with single position fortress counter and kitchen off.
“The current kitchen, we understand from our client, previously formed part of the retail area and could do so again with a relatively small investment (subject to any necessary consents).”
