A startup supporting universities has been shortlisted for a UK award.
Recultured, based in Yorkshire, is a finalist in the Education and Training StartUp of the Year category for the North East, Yorkshire and The Humber at the UK StartUp Awards 2026.
The organisation helps universities tackle harmful practices such as forced marriage and honour-based abuse.
Ameera Jamil, co-founder of Recultured, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be shortlisted for the UK StartUp Awards.
“Recultured was founded to address a gap we saw firsthand, where harmful practices were not being fully recognised or responded to within higher education.
“This recognition reflects the growing importance of this work and the need for institutions to better support students and staff facing these risks.”
Since its launch in 2025, Recultured has gathered insights from around 130 universities on how they address harmful practices and is set to publish its first Harmful Practices Response Index later this year.
Professor Dylan Jones-Evans, OBE, co-founder of the UK StartUp Awards, said: “This year’s finalists represent the very best of British entrepreneurial talent, building ventures that are making a real difference in their industries and communities.”
